Iwatake is an excellent Hakuba Resort adjacent to the Olympic Happo One Resort. Despite having the lowest elevation in the Valley (1,289m) Iwatake boasts some of the most beautiful views on a clear day. The majority of runs on the resort are short with only few runs taking you on the entire vertical.
Iwatake has invested heavily in their non-skiing attractions for both winter and green season. Those visiting Iwatake Resort can enjoy the Yoo-Hoo Mountain Swing, incredible views at Mountain Harbor’s City Bakery, and the elevated experience of the S Class VIP Ticket.

LIFT STATUS
Iwatake has great views, consistent snow, good tree skiing as well as some nice beginner runs and is more protected on those stormy days. Iwatake is less crowded and is a fantastic resort for intermediate skiers and boarders. When people flock to Cortina for tree skiing on those powder days it leaves Iwatake quiet with comparable tree lines available. Iwatake is just 10 minutes from the Happo Village and can be accessed via the free resort shuttle buses. Skiing at Iwatake is also a chance to stop in at the Hakuba Brewery located at the base of the resort to try the local Hakuba Pale Ale.
By Japanese standards, Iwatake is medium sized with short vertical of 539 meters and 15 courses. The ski area is divided into a Mountainside and Village side. Mountainside has multiple lifts that meet Mt. Iwatake. You can snowboard or ski off the top. It’s not as pitchy as other resorts, but is more protected and in our opinion the most underrated resort in Hakuba.
